Some are egg free & almost all are soy free as well.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09878580706576757955noreply@blogger.comBlogger26125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7429014834342654795.post-18939981911775831422015-06-30T15:58:00.003+12:002015-06-30T16:00:17.147+12:00Low Fodmap Spanish Meatloaf via Dr Sue Shepherds book The Low Fodmap Diet CookbookI wasnt sure about this recipe, but made it & fed it to the grandies as well. They ate it All, I couldnt believe it! So here's to hidden veges & lean meat.<br />
<br />
I used a premium minced beef, as I'm intolerant of fats, but you could use whatever grade you like.<br />
<br />
I also tweaked the recipe to suit my body's needs & the kiddies tastes.<br />
<br />
<br />
I'll upload the pic as soon as I can find it, my Mac is eating pics somehow & I cant find them...weird!<br />
Ingredients:<br />
<ul>
<li>1 1/2 pounds (700g) extra lean ground beef</li>
<li>1/2 cup (125ml) tomato paste</li>
<li>3/4 cup (90g) dried gluten free soy free bread crumbs</li>
<li>2 large eggs, lightly beaten</li>
<li>2 tsp garlic or chilli infused oil</li>
<li>2 tsp olive oil</li>
<li>small handful of chopped parsley leaves</li>
<li>3/4 tsp ground ginger</li>
<li>1 tsp ground chilli powder (I left this out)</li>
<li>1 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (I left this out)</li>
<li>1 1/2 tsp sweet paprika (I used smoked)</li>
<li>salt & freshly ground black pepper (I will use 1/2-1 tsp salt next time)</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li>Preheat the oven to 350ºF (180ºC) Line an 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" (21.5 x 11.5cm) loaf pan with foil & spray with cooking spray.</li>
<li>Combine the beef, tomato paste, bread crumbs, eggs, chili infused oil, olive oil, parsley, ginger & smoked paprika, salt & pepper in a large bowl.I added a few leaves of chopped silverbeet & a grated carrot as well.</li>
<li>Mix well & then press evenly into the loaf pan. I run wet hands across the top to smooth it.</li>
<li>Bake 40-45 mins until cooked through & juices run clear when cut. It also shrinks away from the sides when cooked.</li>
<li>Rest for 5 mins before cutting. Serve with garlic mashed potatoes. (I made mashed potatoes with coconut & olive oil to mash)</li>
</ol>

<br />
I went a few weeks ago, & was astounded at the impact sugar has on our health.<br />
Its all backed up medically, if you didnt see it.<br />
<br />
Its been a journey for me, along with visiting a dietician for ongoing gut issues. I have lost a few kilos, & my system is much happier these days. And oh boy do I notice the sweetness of foods, since cutting down on my sugar!<br />
<br />
I actually had to cut down my fat, as I'm sensitive to it, but needed the carbs for energy, while I was catching buses for the last six months. This increase included adding a little more sugar, which I wasnt thrilled about, but had to do. e.g. Buying lower cocoa butter content sugar meant increasing the sugar content...gag!<br />
<br />
There is a cute little car parked in my driveway now, so I will need to rethink the carb intake as well I guess. Who wants to walk in the freezing wind & rain that we get in New Zealand in Winter? Not me thats for sure!<br />
<br />
Hope you've all been doing well, drop in & share your journey sometime.<br />
<br />
No recipes to share lately, as my food is quite simple at the moment. I'm on a Low Fodmap diet, & finding it is great for me. The reintroduction phase begins this week, so its going to be interesting to see how High Fodmap foods affect me.<br />
<br />
The thing about being on this diet, as prescribed by a dietician is, the amount of fructose in foods you'd never suspect. Like honey, apricots, dates, & other 'healthy' foods.<br />
<br />
If you're going 'natural' like I have been prior to this, watch out for those. They are still interpreted by the brain as sugar, & have the same effect on the body.<br />
<br />
Enough for now, go out & do some research. I'll post a list when I have more time.<br />

<br />
<br />
This subject has consumed my thoughts for the better part of last year. For the first time in my life, I've had to deal with carrying extra weight! I"m a small person, so I notice if I get too heavy.<br />
<br />
<br />
Now I get how it can consume your thoughts, diet choices, shopping, feelings...<br />
<br />
There is hope! Throughout last year, I started researching this subject, walked more, & faster, cut back on things like dessert, (which I LOVE), bread & baked goods. Now I'm not saying I cut them out completely (mustn't overdo these things), I just cut back so far as to make them treats.<br />
<br />
I read blogs & articles from people who know more than me, & there are plenty of those...Dr Libby has an excellent article on weight loss,<a href="http://www.drlibby.com/news/dr-libbys-9-factors-weight-loss/" target="_blank">Read Here</a> as well as some dieticians, nutritionists who I follow & trust. Dr Beth is one of those people. You can search her free articles <a href="http://recipesforlifewithdrbeth.com/articles.php" target="_blank">Here</a>. Also a lovely lady I trained with at university, Marcelle Bolweg is a Very qualified dietician amongst other things. <a href="http://www.thefoodieswardrobe.com/" target="_blank">Check out her blog here</a><br />
<br />
Not all though! I had a book on nutrition that I had started reading & found it full of controversial 'facts'.<br />
<br />
My journey also includes the processing of foods, added hormones, preservatives, high levels of salt etc.<br />
<br />
The pattern I'm seeing is the mighty dollar sign. Eg; if we pump the meat with colour & water, it looks fresh & juicy & people will still buy it...sad face goes here. And yes, supermarkets do this! Not all thankfully.<br />
<br />
I've noticed the tomatoes, peas, strawberries, greens I grow, go limp Very quickly in the heat. Whereas, the store bought ones take 3-4 times as long to deteriorate!<br />
That concerns me!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
One of the things that is important to do, is check out your source of information before blindly following them.<br />
There is So much information on the internet & some of it is right. The rest is wrong.<br />
<br />
Eat single ingredient foods where you can & lose weight like me. I"ve lost 4 kg so far, sleeping better, drinking more water, exercising & remaining as stress free as possible. My hormones are balanced more in the mature years too. The bottom line is losing weight isnt all about eating, its about a combination of factors. <br />
<br />
Here's to being healthier this year! Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09878580706576757955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7429014834342654795.post-13772603845297547962014-10-18T08:35:00.001+13:002015-01-01T07:11:43.312+13:00Getting Fresh<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Happy New Year everyone! Today is the day we traditionally take down the Christmas tree. This last year has been full of surprises! Some good, some not my favourites. Here's to a New Year, full of good things, good relationships, new beginnings & new recipes of course.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">If you overly partook of the good foods of Christmas, like I did, now's the time to jump back on that wagon & eat single ingredient foods.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_OQ6X2lgDtyb61y-Y9NLDqJhiX-aqBdSpb2lS6e8mXMVedZpPf8lYVnicmi30ZXvGvKRRq3mKSe1gHoikcfFWIEksVCsfNB518tFtAbvCjvAs25qrC2-dxqklU_zIktw-HC8DysXPbJo/s1600/IMG_7443.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_OQ6X2lgDtyb61y-Y9NLDqJhiX-aqBdSpb2lS6e8mXMVedZpPf8lYVnicmi30ZXvGvKRRq3mKSe1gHoikcfFWIEksVCsfNB518tFtAbvCjvAs25qrC2-dxqklU_zIktw-HC8DysXPbJo/s1600/IMG_7443.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I went to the doctor yesterday & was told my last cholesterol test came back great! That's a testimony to my eating choices over the last year! The only things I buy processed are coconut milk/cream, organic tomatoes in cans, hulled seeds, cocoa, dried beans or canned, tea bags, coconut oil, olive oil, tamari, and shampoo.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This year I plan to change over to cacao & buy more organic brands of those things.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Being financially challenged, that's difficult to achieve each week, but if I buy one product each week, I can do it...and so can you :0)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here's to better food choices! Let's Show the traditional medical profession & other eaters the way to better health!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made a small jar expecting not to like it. Just the thought of soggy salty cabbage is enough to make me gag! But I persevered thinking about the free probiotics I would get with it. Thats always a win!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Boy was I wrong! The cabbage, carrot & ginger I made up was only slightly salty...I used the right amount of salt this time, & Crunchy! So I've just made a new batch, dare I say a huge batch! So easy to make too!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7WsguC8o568guCGfBqRgJvD7lxZws6pjUI0IoN7tKDsv8piFwMnnJtVA4zF5fvKtuAaSN-t64JD0pwt6gZFAfE7zfLP5620yk_-SHojDBCAVezIn0hqXk5PgrllV24BX3taLa7jPRiw4/s1600/IMG_7852.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7WsguC8o568guCGfBqRgJvD7lxZws6pjUI0IoN7tKDsv8piFwMnnJtVA4zF5fvKtuAaSN-t64JD0pwt6gZFAfE7zfLP5620yk_-SHojDBCAVezIn0hqXk5PgrllV24BX3taLa7jPRiw4/s1600/IMG_7852.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span id="goog_1935713343"></span><span id="goog_1935713344"></span>So you want to know how to make it? Ok here's the recipe:</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Ingredients:</b></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Enough cabbage, carrot, fresh ginger or any other veges you like, to fit into your jar, leaving enough room for liquid to cover it.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Water</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 Tbs salt</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Instructions:</span></div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Cut up the cabbage, carrot & ginger as rough or finely as you like</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Put them in a bowl & bash them to release the juices</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Layer them into the jar, sprinkling a little salt on each layer.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Fill the jar with water & use some kind of weight to hold the vegetables down under the water.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Leave on the kitchen bench or counter for 24-48 hours until the liquid starts to taste fizzy. You will see bubbles coming up & popping.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">If you like the taste, push the veges back down, close the lid & put in the fridge. Job done!</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Drink 1 Tbs of the liquid before meals for the probiotics & eat the vegetables with meals or by itself. I'm hooked! Such a great way to use the other half of the cabbage before it spoils too!</span></li>
</ol>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">It keeps for months by the way, win! Not that it'll last that long!</span></div>

Low Fodmap, GaPs, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers...<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I've been doing some more thinking & research on diets.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">My gut is pretty unhappy right now, because Ive been eating Way Too Many carbs lately!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Why do I do it? Its the only leverage I have in my budget, like many of you I"m sure. Also post menopause I crave them, bad I know.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of the common patterns Im seeing in all of these diets, is to eat more veges & protein. For me that means eggs, nuts, meat, fish & chicken, as I"m dairy & gluten intolerant.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So how do we incorporate more veges & proteins into our food?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here are some suggestions:</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Roast Vege Salad</b> - goes with everything, eat hot or cold, travels well & keeps for a week in the fridge.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Scrambled Eggs on Toast</b> - Different versions include: with rocket, chilli, parsley (is a green vegetable), other herbs & spices you like. Get creative with it!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Quiche</b>- A great way to hide veges, with cheese & milks, lots of eggs</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Fish Pie</b>- Made with veges in a white sauce as the second layer, under the fish. I always eat fresh fish 99% of the time now, to avoid the Massive amounts of salt used in tinned fish. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Desserts-</b> with eggs, seeds, veges & nuts: You can eat these at lunchtime too you know.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Pumpkin custards, it really is delicious, give it a try</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Chia pudding w berry coulis (made with cashew milk)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Rice pudding, made with eggs & milks</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Egg custard pies & tarts</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Avocado chocolate mousse & ice cream</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Pumpkin spice ice cream- by <a href="http://minimalistbaker.com/vegan-pumpkin-pie-ice-cream/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MinimalistBaker+%28Minimalist+Baker%29" target="_blank">Minimalist Baker</a></span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Just some ideas for you to start with, even a meat & salad lunch or sandwich. Make sure you add some seeds for extra nutrition</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And <b>Snacks</b>, mustnt forget them!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Chopped up raw veges in containers in the fridge</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Pumpkin custards are great for that</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Chocolate sludge too</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sunflower crackers, or thyme & garlic, cinnamon</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Hummus & dips with raw veges or crackers</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Cheese for those who can eat it</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Yoghurt, not dairy food though</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Dates, but only a few (sugar)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Protein bar, but don't go crazy (sugar) </span></li>
</ul>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So how can we make our money go further?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">I know it is a big read, but yesterdays post by Dietitian Caryn Zinn with her link to her teams 55 page document to have NZ dietary guidelines looked at is really compelling and if you get a chance to read it, please do. This mornings post is also an interesting one, and of course these are observations, they don't equal causation, but are pretty difficult to ignore. I'm sure the experts will agree. This article appeared in<a href="http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.preventdisease.com%2F&h=rAQEHjf93&enc=AZM_wgKzk5y9iUiv6Sou6NAWx8agaPedYbCi8o7jrhY9XbfGxMa_PiRJ_butYYebGjDWMfsVnTIsv4tZp5WmrrirWmYHejTW-6RlBlWoG6jMOOQI8nZ7YI7TJZELob_A4gua8p2acDMAOGMCo6NLv0vWSio4-Z84UGBRTpYQWyB6dA&s=1" rel="nofollow" style="color: #3b5998; cursor: pointer; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">www.preventdisease.com</a></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Renown Heart Surgeon Speaks Out On What Really Causes Heart Disease.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong. So, here it is. I freely admit to being wrong.. As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries,today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled “opinion makers.” Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It Is Not Working!</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Inflammation is not complicated -- it is quite simply your body's natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body? Well,smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream dietthat is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. Thisrepeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Take a moment to visualize rubbing a stiff brush repeatedly over soft skin until it becomes quite red and nearly bleeding. you kept this up several times a day, every day for five years. If you could tolerate this painful brushing, you would have a bleeding, swollen infected area that became worse with each repeated injury. This is a good way to visualize the inflammatory process that could be going on in your body right now.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Regardless of where the inflammatory process occurs, externally or internally, it is the same. I have peered inside thousands upon thousands of arteries. A diseased artery looks as if someone took a brush and scrubbed repeatedly against its wall. Several times a day, every day, the foods we eat create small injuries compounding into more injuries, causing the body to respond continuously and appropriately with inflammation.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">While we savor the tantalizing taste of a sweet roll, our bodies respond alarmingly as if a foreign invader arrived declaring war. Foods loaded with sugars and simple carbohydrates, or processed withomega-6 oils for long shelf life have been the mainstay of the American diet for six decades. These foods have been slowly poisoning everyone.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick?</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy. If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. This repeated injury to the blood vessel wall sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, every day, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator -- inflammation in their arteries.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Let’s get back to the sweet roll. That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6’s are essential -they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell -- they must be in the correct balance with omega-3’s.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If the balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Today’s mainstream American diet has produced an extreme imbalance of these two fats. The ratio of imbalance ranges from 15:1 to as high as 30:1 in favor of omega-6. That’s a tremendous amount of cytokines causing inflammation. In today’s food environment, a 3:1 ratio would be optimal and healthy.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">To make matters worse, the excess weight you are carrying from eating these foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out large quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to the injury caused by having high blood sugar. The process that began with a sweet roll turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and finally, Alzheimer’s disease, as the inflammatory process continues unabated.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">There is no escaping the fact that the more we consume prepared and processed foods, the more we trip the inflammation switch little by little each day. The human body cannot process, nor was it designed to consume, foods packed with sugars and soaked in omega-6 oils.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">There is but one answer to quieting inflammation, and that is returning to foods closer to their natural state. To build muscle, eat more protein. Choose carbohydrates that are very complex such as colorful fruits and vegetables. Cut down on or eliminate inflammation- causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil and the processed foods that are made from them.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">One tablespoon of corn oil contains 7,280 mg of omega-6; soybean contains 6,940 mg. Instead, use olive oil or butter from grass-fed beef.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the supposedly healthy oils labelled polyunsaturated. Forget the “science” that has been drummed into your head for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is non-existent. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also very weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more absurd today.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The cholesterol theory led to the no-fat, low-fat recommendations that in turn created the very foods now causing an epidemic of inflammation. Mainstream medicine made a terrible mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favor of foods high in omega-6 fats. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease and other silent killers.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-size: large;">What you can do is choose whole foods your grandmother served and not those your mom turned to as grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh unprocessed food, you will reverse years of damage in your arteries and throughout your body from consuming the typical American diet.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">My day is all about the dog, well cooking her food anyway. I had great plans to do some lovely Summer things today, but the weather decided to remind me its still Spring. So here I am, hiding inside making dog food & using up my almond meal...but thats another post.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Her name is Lexi & shes an 8 year old Maltese, very cutey cutey people say. She is cute & I love her to bits, but you know what its like when you live with someone. You get to see the other side of them. Shes good as long as I walk her every day, she gets bored easily, being so intelligent.</span></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Anyway, back to the food. I make her food because I like to know whats in it, & dont like the commercial products, full of old dead animals & additives etc. I used to cook on a large farm station a while back, & saw how long the dead animals lay in a big bin, until the pet food man came & got them...disgusting!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here's the recipe which is approved by my vet.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>Dog Food</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">For a small dog like Lexi who is 4.5 kgs I want to make enough for a week at a time. You may want to increase the quantities for a larger dog. Cat food has higher protein than dog, so you may want to double the protein you use.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>Ingredients:</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 large chicken thigh</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 cup white rice</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 carrot</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 stick celery</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">olive oil, 1/2 tsp per meal</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">animal probiotic powder, 1/4 tsp per day</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>Instructions:</b></span></div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Cook the chicken on a low heat for about 1/2 an hour, until the water level is down to the chicken.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Turn the chicken piece over & add the rice & vegetables.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Cook until all the water is absorbed.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Remove the chicken & pull all the meat, skin & cartilage (white rubbery bit) away from the bones. I have a frozen bag of bones in the freezer that I add to the rubbish on collection day.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Chop the meat up very finely & add it back into the rice & veges, mixing well.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">That amount will feed Lexi for nearly a week, being fed 1/4 cup twice a day.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Add 1/4 tsp of the probiotic powder to one meal per day, & half a tsp olive oil to the food for each meal. This gives them the fatty acids they need for their skin. No more itchy dog...unless it has fleas & thats another post.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I freeze one of the containers of food, as chicken doesnt keep long. Keep the other container in the fridge, but you knew that.</span></li>
</ol>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">*Cooked bones are Very bad for dogs, they constipate them. The chemical composition of the bones changes on cooking, so its best not to feed them to your dog. Only raw bones without sharp points are good. I use brisket bones for Lexi as she has very tiny teeth.</span></div>

Well figuratively anyway.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yesterday I got into my stores of dry food & what was left over in the fridge etc & made some very yummy things to eat!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started the day with my traditional wholegrain oats, with sesame seeds, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger & some frozen cranberries(man those things are Sour) in it. Chopped apple & brazil nuts on top.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGb1Y0nHYv6ivPiB_Mi8DU6OHHjRaD4hs4kXFCCYXik2PxJCxOUGir7kMBKjlDfKtqInAPcR-wQXZ5jW-29PKUke-iwCzUIZrv8UwrUp4upbZXyyP1CS7InLYNAMCNnO6ZlA-oYhLRfno/s1600/IMG_7557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGb1Y0nHYv6ivPiB_Mi8DU6OHHjRaD4hs4kXFCCYXik2PxJCxOUGir7kMBKjlDfKtqInAPcR-wQXZ5jW-29PKUke-iwCzUIZrv8UwrUp4upbZXyyP1CS7InLYNAMCNnO6ZlA-oYhLRfno/s1600/IMG_7557.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had brown rice, so I made rocket lemon risotto with chicken for dinner. It was So good! I used the liquid from cooking the chicken as the water for the risotto, picked some of the larger leaves of rocket from the garden & had been given some lemons, so the zest & juice went in at the end. (zest gets bitter otherwise) You can find the recipe on my main meals page</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKUhPJTr89j1-Sn4-M1By3EXuFJa51KDdsZbmOZJSQN7-W_L-kxBitYCwL6nP6_gCQUanZQd9WrP27axbPosQlAqci8N0Or6n9CxMkjebnDOqGXMTFPBgz2wzRa27cRAY3Zod8YsGMXeo/s1600/IMG_7570.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKUhPJTr89j1-Sn4-M1By3EXuFJa51KDdsZbmOZJSQN7-W_L-kxBitYCwL6nP6_gCQUanZQd9WrP27axbPosQlAqci8N0Or6n9CxMkjebnDOqGXMTFPBgz2wzRa27cRAY3Zod8YsGMXeo/s1600/IMG_7570.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also had some coconut flour, a banana & other dry ingredients like currants, so I made what I like to call Banana Bread, but its more like coconut fruit bread with only one banana. You can find the recipe on my baking page.</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE77W0jJuW3VBJ0v1qYOvRhCmtEtB4qG2SaOhU692QE2bA1UEYWFT8RVtBELoRzB-om_7BCJhS22EOUhA0SSIladreRW8AyqNioGWMpk3vry8dadzm_9r8oSUOGTpfKrIJavnxsVEDD2I/s1600/IMG_7569.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE77W0jJuW3VBJ0v1qYOvRhCmtEtB4qG2SaOhU692QE2bA1UEYWFT8RVtBELoRzB-om_7BCJhS22EOUhA0SSIladreRW8AyqNioGWMpk3vry8dadzm_9r8oSUOGTpfKrIJavnxsVEDD2I/s1600/IMG_7569.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Then I had some Chia Pudding with Cranberry Compote for dessert. You can find the recipe on my dessert page.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next I found some dried chickpeas, to make hummus & roasted chickpeas for snacks. They are cooking right now! Find those recipes on my snacks page.</span></span><br />

Its that time when the bills roll in one after the other, with surprises in between. You know what I'm talking about, no matter what country huh!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7J2LNTfKAwYuHC7mwQjl2jJOUEUiB8ODGRBPH_XRDJaQHr-oO1wtgsrJz4Akl-EhLEWR5Znnxc8UPUQ3n_5g959XKv_kBtCsnZkHDxhKVrQNMynJ98s2-ukwDGDjKI8SDzjHokNCxs3E/s1600/IMG_4743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7J2LNTfKAwYuHC7mwQjl2jJOUEUiB8ODGRBPH_XRDJaQHr-oO1wtgsrJz4Akl-EhLEWR5Znnxc8UPUQ3n_5g959XKv_kBtCsnZkHDxhKVrQNMynJ98s2-ukwDGDjKI8SDzjHokNCxs3E/s1600/IMG_4743.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I"m looking in my cupboards to see what I can make. So far I've found dried chickpeas, they will be roasted chickpeas & hummus, with a lemon & garlic I have. If I had a can of tomatoes I'd make Moroccan chickpea soup, but I don't.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I found a banana in the freezer, & eggs, so banana bread is on the menu, along with the apple cider bread to use up. I still cant get why anyone would want to eat that stuff! Its sour!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have 2 chicken thighs for today, what shall I make with them? I was thinking soup but I have NO vegetables left.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have rice, gf noodles, lentils, gf flours, 2 eggs, a small can of coconut milk & coconut flour. Lend me your creativity today, all ideas welcome.</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09878580706576757955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7429014834342654795.post-91027818307008956622014-08-18T17:47:00.001+12:002014-10-17T15:41:13.876+13:00All Blogs are Not Equal<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">A bit of a controversial subject I know!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/FeedingUwell/photos/a.672606116122081.1073741828.671856869530339/685904914792201/?type=1&theater">https://www.facebook.com/FeedingUwell/photos/a.672606116122081.1073741828.671856869530339/685904914792201/?type=1&theater</a></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is what I made today. As it was called an apple cider bread, I shouldn't be surprised that it reeked of vinegar, & worse still...tasted of it...a LOT!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ok I swapped out 1 cup of the sorghum flour for flax meal, buckwheat & added an egg. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">But still! Bread shouldn't taste of vinegar should it? Perhaps its my limited cultural tastes?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway, the texture was good, and the general feel & taste was good. I could post the recipe...but do you want it? Best wait for the next one.</span></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09878580706576757955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7429014834342654795.post-58303697012869595952014-08-17T16:07:00.002+12:002014-10-17T15:41:50.255+13:00Bone Broth <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">HI, how are you today? Thanks for dropping in to visit my blog, without you there'd be no point doing one. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Bone broth</b> is the latest catch word, everyone who's anyone is using it. Why? Because its Full of nutrients!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I've seen bone broth before, in fact its a staple of a chefs kitchen, chefs call it stock. Though chefs don't put vinegar in theirs. Its said to bring out all the gelatine in the bones. They use vegetables, chicken bones, beef & fish bones, to make nutrient rich, flavoursome, flavoured broths for our dishes. Yum! </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Chefs use stock instead of water in most dishes that call for water. They do this to add more flavour to the dish, these days its used nutritionally, & thats a good thing in my opinion.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My grandmother used to save the water from all the vegetables she cooked, & either drink it with the meal, or freeze it to use another day in her cooking. Very thrifty! Not to mention health conscious, she was a whizz at things like that.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some examples of places you could use bone broth are:</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">E.G. risotto, soup, pasta dishes, sauces, to cook vegetables in, polenta & meat dishes. *Use it in the place of water.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbaCDhBR0n7Gtun9arEEth-nd0ZIKva4NEhAe-TaIf6_Vnr_gbB-xY3hfGhrRHq1zhhvNJO_r0NZIuKHxkIn5kzJnNaHG_CYnfntqGvQlIhC6Z1iXlBm0GUQKynqvCpt5zdnWGFHntEYw/s1600/IMG_7442.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbaCDhBR0n7Gtun9arEEth-nd0ZIKva4NEhAe-TaIf6_Vnr_gbB-xY3hfGhrRHq1zhhvNJO_r0NZIuKHxkIn5kzJnNaHG_CYnfntqGvQlIhC6Z1iXlBm0GUQKynqvCpt5zdnWGFHntEYw/s1600/IMG_7442.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">One of the dumbest things I've heard is the statement, "we don't believe going organic is any more healthy than not". (The food authorities)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Thats a strong thing to say, & I just cant understand the reasoning behind it.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">If the vegetables & fruit have been sprayed with pesticides, who wants to or feels safe to eat the skin?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">NOT me thats for sure!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So when I buy organic, I leave the skin on all my fruit & veges, where applicable of course.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Why do I do that?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Because heaps of the nutrients are in the skin!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The end, have a great day everyone. If you woke up, its a good day.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b></b></span><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>More on Snacks:</b></span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR7mgUxXotMmshzIksnugVtcsZFxuzD-Cxbe57RgN9XAwer0EiyojALSCl-fK0pT-r_Qa-4nRl8wiHsIYIe4cOoIKrvOok6V7dJyjhaIihCUwhW03vs-kzM1nXihSk5SlIXYy5PPl8sxM/s1600/IMG_7531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR7mgUxXotMmshzIksnugVtcsZFxuzD-Cxbe57RgN9XAwer0EiyojALSCl-fK0pT-r_Qa-4nRl8wiHsIYIe4cOoIKrvOok6V7dJyjhaIihCUwhW03vs-kzM1nXihSk5SlIXYy5PPl8sxM/s1600/IMG_7531.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>Gluten, dairy, egg, soy, sugar & nut free Crackers</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">From what I'm hearing its definitely the snacks that are hardest to find, in a more healthy or allergy friendly form. So I'm doing some research, learning a lot along the way, & producing some very tasty little morsels for you! See my baking page for more x</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">HI again, I've been thinking...did you smell the smoke?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of the issues that a lot of people have difficulty with, when trying to eat a more healthy diet, in my experience, is snacks!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">e.g. What can I eat between meals when I'm still a bit hungry?...</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br /></span>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I get it! I have the same issue, so I'm going to share some ideas & information I've gathered on the subject.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Firstly, if we eat a good amount of protein & healthy fats with every meal, we wont get hungry between meals. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Secondly I've found that some of those 'hunger' feelings, aren't hunger! They are the body saying "hey I"m thirsty, give me some water". And NO amount of herbal teas, coffee or other beverages seem to satisfy that craving! The sugar in the juice based drinks is known to make us more thirsty, therefore drink more juice, making yourself more thirsty. I've tested this theory on myself, as I do, & found it to be true.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">To demonstrate I'll share my experience of this. I usually have a large cup about 500mls of <a href="http://shop.countdown.co.nz/Shop/ProductDetails?Stockcode=265784&name=freshpak-rooibos-tea-bags-200g" target="_blank">Rooibos Tea</a> when I first get up in the morning. Then I eat a bowl of soaked & cooked wholegrain oats aka porridge (oatmeal) with either cinnamon, turmeric or ginger (or a combination) in it, & lately 2 brazil nuts. I usually put a gold kiwifruit, or an apple, or berries with the porridge too.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpHy4c4uJ2CVsRAHpkv7YkzZfHIh1E7C7FT92Wi3ogkIEhuZFB2vosNaR-7aP21B3n_OeU9-t6K37axQHw3E9c7RKaBSWpH9s_PZKrtNXh2qqak-yGm9aDfoGoMZKqPLwrfXMQMvH9gLI/s1600/IMG_7501.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpHy4c4uJ2CVsRAHpkv7YkzZfHIh1E7C7FT92Wi3ogkIEhuZFB2vosNaR-7aP21B3n_OeU9-t6K37axQHw3E9c7RKaBSWpH9s_PZKrtNXh2qqak-yGm9aDfoGoMZKqPLwrfXMQMvH9gLI/s1600/IMG_7501.jpg" height="233" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Buckwheat Baking Powder Bread</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Then I have a slice of gluten free, dairy free toast, home made, with raw honey on it, or home made nut butter. My current fave is almond butter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Now I ought to be full & satisfied, but I'm not. So I reach for more nuts, <a href="http://www.ceres.co.nz/Our_Products/Ceres_Organics/Snack_Foods/CategoryID/305/ProductID/13795" target="_blank">Coconut Chips</a> or sunflower seeds, or even some home made crackers. Ridiculous!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So one day I did a test. I made gf, df french toast with banana, maple syrup & bacon. 2 slices of the toast, 2 rashers of <a href="http://www.hendersonsbacon.com/" target="_blank">Henderson's Nitrate Free Bacon</a>, 1 banana & 1 tsp of maple syrup. I like the <a href="http://www.queen.com.au/pantry-item/pure-organic-maple-syrup/" target="_blank">Queen Organic Maple Syrup</a>, the Real stuff!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Result? I was full! Until lunchtime! </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Then I analysed what I'd eaten in my usual breakfast & came up with this result. My breakfast was made up of: fructose, carbs, heavy metals (from the boiled water) & herbal tea flavouring with a tiny bit of protein.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I also lead a somewhat sedentary lifestyle, doing a LOT of research.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The results of this self testing, show me that what others are saying about eating more healthy fats at each meal, is right. So I guess its eggs on toast for this chick tomorrow (couldn't resist), or quinoa 'porridge' with fruit.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And as for the snacks, I try to eat coconut chips, nuts & oven baked vegetable chips like parsnips, kale zucchini, kumara, pumpkin, brussel sprouts (warmed), carrots with a little olive oil on them, or coconut oil.</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Some of my food rules are:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Buy organic if I can, if I cant, buy the Best quality I can afford, & make sure its fully ripened before buying. When fruit is picked before its ripe, the sugars havent fully developed in the fresh produce.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Find sweet flavours I can add to food, to appease my sweet tooth.</span></li>
</ol>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The way I do that is by following some simple rules for cooking. I caramelise the sugars in the food where possible, by roasting or toasting. When the natural sugars are caramelised, they go brown...simple.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">If there are no sugars present or very low sugar, like bread, I add a flavour to enhance the sweetness or cover another flavour.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">For example: Organic Coconut oil, chips etc, is quite sweet! So is liquorice root aka liquorice tea. If its a savoury meal, use bone broth/stock instead of water, to add nutrition & flavour. (chef tip)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I add fruit (gold kiwifruit, berries, chopped raw organic apple, skin on) to my porridge, seeds, (sunflower) spices like cinnamon & occasionally nuts. Almond nuts are sweet, but I just LOVE brazil nuts, & they give me selenium for my nails & hair. New Zealand is said to have low silica in our soil, so I make sure my nails & hair arent compromised. I also like to eat well.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Sometimes I add mint to things like coleslaw, or dried fruit (keep it minimal), a little sprinkle of sea or Himalayan pink salt, or other herbs. Parsley is divine with pumpkin soup, kale chips are crunchy...its all about the flavours, textures for me.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Pretty easy when you think about it, she says eating a handful of coconut chips mmmm creamy, chewy & lovely milk.</span></div>

It has some very good things to say about how ingredients interact with each other. It seems our bodies only need glucose, which is found in meat & vegetables. What we dont need is fructose! It has no nutritional helping value at all, in any part of our bodies...makes me wonder why God invented fruit?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Agave is Extremely high in fructose, 70% in fact! I know when I've used it, thinking it was healthy...I felt really sick. Now I know why! As well as the high fat content, albeit good fat from coconut oil & cashews. And honey is higher than maple syrup! (the no sugar added one) I'm changing my habits as we speak. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What Sarah does say, is eat more fat for satiety (feeling full). </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So today I made an avocado chocolate mousse & ate it on apple segments, delish! I also had nuts with breakfast & have seeds on the fish pie I"m making. With fresh fish naturally, wayyyyy too much salt in tinned fish! I mean like 45 tsp in some of them! Yes I'll post the recipe once I serve out a portion & take a pic. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Sarah recommends putting coconut oil on your veges for the fat content, yum!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm also reading a FODMAP diet book & allergy proof recipes for kids. Ok lets face reality here, I read any dietary book I can get my hands on, even scouring recipes in the old mags at the Drs office, in other venues, even toilets. I"ve actually been known to ask a doctor to wait a second while I take a pic of a recipe...who hears me?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I borrow magazines too, & yes I take them back.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So back to the subject, I picked up the Fodmap book in the library to see what kind of recipes are in there & what exactly Fodmaps are...a really long explanation actually. I noticed that in that on the Fm (Fodmap) diet, a person needs to eat very little fat, as its inflammatory to a sensitive person. I found that very interesting as I dont tolerate fat well at all. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Also a lot of the 'healthy' legumes, pulses, seeds and grains, particularly wheat are not well tolerated. Me again! I live dairy & gluten free anyway, but could start my own hot air balloon business occasionally...if you know what I mean. wink.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So how does one go sugar free, eat a different diet & still manage to get good nutrition?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Watch this space as I do more research, helping me & helping you. Feel free to leave me a comment.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>I now have Low Fodmap recipes on my baking page, enjoy.</i></span></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>And today I came across the website for one of my classmates from uni: </b></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b> </b><a href="http://www.thefoodieswardrobe.com/#!about-me/cjg9" target="_blank"><i>The Foodies Wardrobe</i></a></span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>She's one clever cookie! Go check her website! You wont regret the visit </i></span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some time ago, I thought I had it nailed! Get rid of white sugar out of the diet, easy. Or so I thought!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I ditched the white, went over to raw & carried on cooking...</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Then I read about how sugar is inflammatory in the body, if there are any issues like arthritis, IBS (irritable bowel)</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I went all out & got rid of the sugars in my cupboards... Or so I thought!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Recently I've been dealing with leaky gut issues, learning about it that is. And compromised gut flora, & other inflammatory diseases (never stop learning)</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A wise owl (wiser than me) informed me that dates, coconut sugar, maple syrup, & even bananas... are still sugar! </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There go the sweet treats! This leads me into thinking, what shall I eat or what can others eat, when I want that little something extra at the end of the meal?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So far I"ve found the organic coconut chips are marvellous! Creamy, chewy, semi sweet & filling! Ticks all the boxes! </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also have a protein bar that I make & keep in the fridge for those moments...after dinner...every night! I'll post the recipe when I make a new batch. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some nuts are good, as are sunflower seeds, but I usually eat nuts in the morning unless Im desperate.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Even a date or three helps sometimes. I"ve found cooking some plain rice with bottled unsweetened fruit, with a few drops of stevia on it, is good as a dessert too.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here's to our good healthy sweet things</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">p.s. I found this article: http://lifefoods.co.nz/blog/shedding-the-sugar/</span></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09878580706576757955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7429014834342654795.post-39644587289936535182014-07-20T19:11:00.003+12:002014-10-17T15:47:31.409+13:00Moving Forward<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today I bought business cards for the upcoming seminar with Gina Wilson on August 23rd....excitingggggg!</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09878580706576757955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7429014834342654795.post-22177483989927716282014-07-12T14:05:00.006+12:002014-10-17T15:51:37.890+13:00Chemical Poisoning<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Today I want to talk about something a lot of us dont even think about...additives in food & other products we use on & in our bodies.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There are some some words I learned some years ago, that I had never thought about before. Thanks to some good friends of mine, who mentored me in my chemical free journey, I came to learn about these nasties: <b>Sodium Laurel Sulphate</b> & <b>Propylene Glycol</b>. Google what they are so I'm not influencing your thinking.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">They are found in your vanilla essence, your toothpaste, shampoo & many other places in your home.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now ask yourself the question: "why do I have this product in my toothpaste?" Someone close to me once said "well they must put it in there for a reason"...pure ignorance!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Also the word <b>Nitrates</b>...in lots of meat products & really not good for us either. I no longer buy pre corned beef, bacon or ham with nitrates. And yes they taste different! Like meat in fact, like they were designed to.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">These days I use <b>Enjo</b></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> cloths and plain water to clean with, even my dishes. And for washing clothes, <b>Washing Soda Crystals</b>, derived from salt. Myself? water & an <b>Enjo</b> cloth. Do I smell? No ones ever told me I do. My only concession to chemicals is my organic shampoo & conditioner, which will be changing shortly, as I have developed a scalp condition...since using them! Now stop scratching your head & go cook something healthy...from scratch :0)</span></span><br />
